The Strivers Row

Just in time for Autumn I became re acquainted with my writing side due to the fact that I'm taking my Journalism Class this year (and it has my creative train chugging daily). I was being a little emotional so I decided to go onto YouTube and just look at some of my old favorite spoken word acts. I was completely unaware that I was going to come across something as beautiful as The Strivers Row

It is a writing, poetry, spoken word group consisting of three guys and three girls. Some of my favorites, Alysia Harris (famous for her infamous "That Girl" act), Zora Howard and my two new favorites, Joshua Bennett and Miles Hodges (who just happens to be engaged to me). I plan on attending a Strivers show in early November on The University of South Carolina's campus as a birthday present to myself (even though my birthday is in October lol) If I do go, you will get lots of pictures (hopefully Miles isn't shy and finally lets people know we're to be married lol) and of course, great captions and stories to go with them.

Below you can check out some of their work (which are my personal favorites) But don't just limit yourself to what's on my blog, check out their other work and give some other artists a chance; you never know what you'll find.

Kandid Kanye

The most beautiful, insightful interview I've seen of Kanye to date. His guard was down, and... I just couldn't stop smiling (even when he spoke of Kim) Watch and enjoy.

Meanwhile In SC...

Due to the gloomy, rain weather we've been having in good ole' Orangeburg, South Carolina my playlist has changed a little. I've found myself listening to Coldplay, Nirvana and Yuna albums. (Not what you expected from this gal huh? Thank my mother for my eclectic taste...she loves Nirvana haha) I find the tunes to be relaxing and stress free... the perfect music for me right now. Hopefully this post will encourage you to take a listen for yourself if you haven't already.

The Time Has Come

Yes my dearest Lia Loves, it is in fact about that time... The time where you trade late nights for early mornings and school breakfast.  Free weekends shall be traded for studying and projects with friends... oh joyyyyy right? Well for me, I'm excited (my 13 year old, 8th grade sister isn't as ecstatic..she has a while to go) I am head over heels because well... I'M A SENIOR THIS YEAR! Yes... yes I am indeed. I know, it seems just yesterday I was sharing the original blog with Briana and wishing I was older so I could get out of school. Now... it's actually happening! I've made another effort to become more involved this year (I know a little too late...but whatever) I have few classes, and I'm no longer forced to do those horrid IB courses (Thanks be to Shiva) so I will definitely be in a better mood and have time to blog more.

The soundtrack for my final year in high school you ask? Oh, its none other than the wonderful Mr. West...
  The College Dropout
Late Registration
Graduation.
Those are the albums that shall be played on a daily basis until my mother gets tired of rapping every song word for word along with me. (she's the reason I love him so much) Below are some tracks that remind me of the years behind me and the year to come and 2 possible senior quotes for my yearbook lol. enjoy.

on this hump day.

Just less than an hour ago, I posted my first ever #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) on instagram. My WCW was none other than the wonderfully beautiful and talented Vashtie Kola... and guess what?
Can you see that? You see the name Vashite above the thing that says "View all 17 LIKES"? Yeah, thats right... she liked the picture. And guess what else?
Yes, Yes, Yes... after my long monologue type speech... she commented. Not once... but TWICE.
Exhibit A: the kissy and blushing faces.
Exhibit B: Where she called me.. and I quote "an incredible young woman with a bright future ahead of her!"
Dear Mama, I'm moving on up.
